Clinical Services for Men

Men in most, if not all cultures, are parented and socialized according to well defined gender specific stereotypes.  By definition the stereotype is a grossly over simplified notion of what is a man.

In fact the same over simplification is the rule for socializing women.  The only difference being, that women have had and continue to have support from a variety of sources to develop beyond what culture, tradition and family legacies impose on them.

For the most part this has been lacking for men.  As a result men continue to live out the expectations of others, terrified to think let alone do that which they want.  Afraid to even think about quality of life issues, men live out the legacies of their male predecessors mostly in quiet desperation unaware that there are choices available to them.

The principle clinical approach is raising of consciousness.  Bringing to a rational awareness how life experiences shape men, and from this awareness learning how to shape as opposed to being shaped by outside forces.  The approach is based on the axiom of life that “what we don’t know hurts us”.

Self or professional referrals are accepted and first appointments are usually offered within two to three weeks.  The only expectation of a man is vigorous participation in the process of consciousness raising and compliance with completing assigned readings.  No issue is too small, too big or too complex to be addressed.

Fees
There is an hourly and a group session fee to mark the service as a professional one, provided by a seasoned clinician with a doctorate and over 35 years of experience.  The fee also is to mark the importance of the service as well as to facilitate each man’s vigorous participation in the process.  That which is free or easily acquired is seldom honoured and valued.

Individual rates: $135.00 / hour
Group therapy participation: $100.00 for 2 hour
